THE TRAINING COURSE
The training course is for 5 days and is fully residential at Springbrook training farm near Gympie, approximately 3 hours north of Brisbane in Queensland.
The course starts on Monday and finishes on Friday evening, with meeting point in Noosa (2 hours' drive north of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast).
The aim of the course is to provide a general introduction to Australian farm work. This will give you an awareness of what is required to do well in outback Australia, as well as some skills that will allow you to be useful as soon as you arrive with your employer.
We assess your skills and attitude; and then match you to the jobs that best suit your skills, experience and aspirations.
There is a huge range of work available in rural and outback Australia. We have over 2,000 employers and typically 50 or more vacancies each week.
During the training course we expect to offer you 3 or more roles that suit you. You will have the chance to speak to one or more employers whose jobs we have filtered with you in mind.
Our trainers and job co-ordination staff will be able to explain the roles and assist you with your job choice.
Our guarantee is that we will offer you one or more jobs in rural and outback Australia that suit your skills, experience and aptitude. One or all of these may allow you to gain your second year visa.
The guarantee requires a certain level of spoken English, fitness, willingness to learn, ability to work hard and quickly become useful in the workplace.
When you apply we will assess your application form, and offer a guarantee of work based on the information you have given us.
We will also assess your abilities during the training course and make job offers accordingly.
The employer's expectation is that you will work for at least three months in one job. Your visa allows a maximum of 6 months for one employer.
Our expectation is that you will enter into the training course committed and willing to apply yourself to new things, to taking part and getting involved, to working hard, to being sociable and friendly to others, to being fair, respectful, polite, co-operative and easy to communicate with.
Our employers normally pay according the award wage structure. This is at least the minimum wage for your age and the type of work you are doing. We take our guide for pay rates from the Pastoral Award - Farmhand Level 1 wage structure.
Australian pay rates are fair. In 3 months you can reasonably expect to earn and save $4-6,000 Australian dollars. Pay and working conditions are governed by Fairwork and our employers are required to operate in accordance with Fairwork's requirements.
Please note that the adult wage applies to age 20 upwards. 18 and 19 year olds can be paid at 80% and 90% of the adult wage respectively.
