FARMWORK (for beginners)
THIS PAGE EXPLAINS THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW TO FARMING, OR WITH SOME RELEVANT SKILLS
The work is typically with livestock, farm equipment, machinery or infrastructure but can also be supporting the farmer and family in their day to day life.
Livestock includes cattle, sheep, horses and other animals. Machinery includes tractors, dirt bikes, quad bikes, Utes and other machinery. Infrastructure includes fencing, water supply, irrigation, buildings etc.
To get a flavour of the work and tasks look at the gallery below.
Farmwork gives an opportunity to be part of Australian Country and outback life living and working closely day to day with Australian Farmers, often as a general assistant. You will need to be motivated, willing to learn and apply yourself and able to cope with some challenges. Farmers are looking for responsible workers who are willing to apply themselves, get involved, work hard and learn fast. You do not need previous skill or relevant experience, but it helps.
Australian payrates are fair and generous. The work and environment can be challenging, but most fine it intensely rewarding. It can take a while to adapt. Conditions can be tough, the environment remote and sometimes harsh, and the work physical and mentally demanding.
