JOBS & ROLES

There is a huge range of work available in rural and outback Australia. 
Roles vary greatly from farm to farm. The list below will give you some idea of the range of work available. 
General Farm Work
  • Cattle stations, sheep stations, broadacre arable farming
  • Livestock work (cattle, sheep).
  • Feeding, watering, husbandry
  • Vehicle and property maintenance, fencing
  • Regular use of 2 wheel dirtbikes, quad bikes
  • Tractors and other large machinery (graders, dozers, headers, operation with various implements)
  • Harvest and sowing, ground preparation
  • Irrigation and water checking 
  • Sheep shearing 
  • Mustering
  • Fencing, spraying, weed control 
  • Speciality crops - e.g cotton, fruit orchards, and nut orchards
  • Horticultural production 
Equine & Equestrian Farm Work
  • Training establishments, race horses,
  • Equestrian disciplines, show jumping, dressage, eventing, endurance riding
  • Breeding establishments, stud farms 
  • Race horses, stock horses, cutting horses
  • Polo and Polocrosse Centres
  • Trail riding, riding schools
  • Stables and livery 
  • Riding and exercising work
  • Ground work
  • Stable work
Inside-Outside Roles
  • Cooking, cleaning, domestic support work
  • Childcare / au-pair 
  • Station or camp cook 
  • Teaching and tutoring young children, distance education and school of the air
Hospitality & Retail 
  • Hospitality work in outback pubs, hotels, host farms, museums and restaurants
  • Reception, housemaid, kitchen, bar and restaurant
  • Work in outback and coastal tourist resorts and other tourism enterprises.
