CALLING YOUR EMPLOYER

This page is about calling your employer and confirming the main and important information about your potential jobs.

Employment Information will be provided, normally in the form of a link to web page with information about the employer and role.
NB. This may be generalised information and not necessarily specific to you or your role.
You will be able to discuss this with any of the VisitOz workers Jobs Team.
You will then be able to speak to the employer to get to know them a little, and to hear more about the role.

We recommend a conversation as outlined below.
We highly recommend keeping notes. Take a photo of them and email them to yourself.
The training farm has formatted Employer Call sheets to help you with this.

READ, DISCUSS, CONSIDER, DECIDE, ACCEPT (OR DECLINE)

IMPORTANT NOTES
  • Do not fear this process. The employers know what to expect and understand that you will be nervous.
  • Think of it as a relaxed conversation to discover about each other, not a formal scary interview.
  • RBEs are ‘Requests By Employers’, If an employer has specifically requested you call them
  • Even if you are not sure about how a job looks on paper, or something doesn’t quite fit, call anyway.  It will help you understand how this process works.
  • The printed information is sometimes just a general guide, it may not be completely up to date or specific to a role for you.
  • Never decline a job before you have accepted one first.
  • Once you have called everyone you should have, make your choice and call to confirm acceptance.
    • Confirm in writing by text, whatsapp, or email. (especially if you have not reached them by phone)
  • Once confirmed, please call back other employers who are waiting to hear from you to politely decline and thank them for their time.
  • Don’t wait too long. The sooner you complete this process, the better, as job may also be advertised externally.
  • If it feels like a good enough fit, go for it, and make it a success by your actions and your attitude.

Ask us of you need help and advice.
